The Bachhal clan claims descent from a mythical figure, Raja Vena. Their earliest settlements were in Rohilkhand, where they were a dominant community until 1174. According to tradition, the clan's founder, Raja Bairat of Barkhar in the Kheri district, hosted the five Pandavas during their exile from Hastinapur. Known for their enterprise, the Bachhals constructed several canals, remnants of which are still visible today. Currently, Bachhals are predominantly found in the districts of Bulandshahar, Mathura, Moradabad, Shahjahanpur, Sitapur, and Kheri in Oudh and the North-West provinces.
